Fritzing Usability Test

2011

Over the last three years, Fritzing (which is still beta) has evolved a lot. In this context, it was a important for the development team to check on how good it fits the needs of physical computing beginners, who remain a critical category of users.

In a course led by Gregor Glass and Marian Gunkel, and in collaboration with the Fritzing development team, we designed and conducted an extensive evaluation of the Fritzing software (Version 0.52b).

First, we established the main use cases for the target audience, participants of the Physical Computing Fundation course lead by Prof. Wettach. After this, we created a four part test scenario that probed the whole user experience of a beginner, from downloading the software to the modification of a sketch.
